Created as a small family car, the Octavia is a vehicle manufactured by the Czech company Skoda and the first models were primarily built at the Skoda factory in Mlada Boleslav.
Available as either an estate or a lift back, the Octavia had five doors and was constructed upon the Volkswagen Group A4 PQ34 platform, which it shared with the Audi A3, Skoda Kamiq, SEAT Toledo, SEAT Leon, the new Volkswagen Beetle, Volkswagen Lavida, Volkswagen Bora, Volkswagen Golf and the Audi TT.
2000 saw in a new facelift, with the release date delayed by up to four years in some countries.
Predominantly, Skoda made big changes to the independent suspension and upgraded the interior.
Second generations changed platforms and now used the underpinnings of the Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) Platform.
The design team was now headed up by Thomas Ingenlath and Peter Wouda; the former of whom is a German car designer having previously held the title ‘Senior Vice President Design’ at Volvo Cars.
Some of Ingenlath’s creations included the Skoda’s; Superb, Fabia, Roomster, Yeti and two Polestars; the 1 and the 2.
Now included in the Volkswagen family, new production factories were used in addition to the Mlada Assembly Plant, namely Bratislava, Slovakia and Shanghai.
There were two four-wheel drive variations made available with both making use of a computer-aided four-wheel drive system.
Trim levels included the Classic, Ambient, 4x4, Laurin & Klement, Scout 4x4 and vRS. and Elegance.
2012 saw the third generation with orders taken and sales made in February 2013; still only available as a lift back or an estate, these newer examples had changed designer again (Jozef Kaban) and were the first Skoda models to have front radar and multifunction cameras installed.
