The CX-5 is the compact crossover SUV offering from the Japanese automaker Mazda.

It is the first compact crossover SUV from the company and first went into production in 2012.

You can also find other crossover SUVs from the company on sale sporting similar designs such as the larger CX-7 and the smaller CX-3.

To create this CX-5 model the company took the same platform that is used under the Mazda3, a successful compact car line.

Initially, the first generation was offered with one of three engines, two gasoline and one diesel option - mated to either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.

Buyers could choose between their version of the car being front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive at the cost of both a higher price and higher running costs.

The car was an instant hit with the public thanks to it being sat on an already tried-and-tested platform, it scored "Good" safety scores.

In 2017 a second-generation CX-5 was launched with many of the same drivetrain setups as before.

These new configurations had been improved by the company and now boasted better fuel economy than before.

Then in 2021, the Mazda CX-5 line received a facelift that affected both its styling and features.

Among these changes was the addition of the Mi-Drive system that allows the driver to choose their current driving style so that the car aids it appropriately.
