The first Cadillac SRX examples that came onto the scene back in 2004 were classed as mid-luxury SUVs.

They were built on the same platform as the CTS and STS with rear-wheel-drive as standard.

Inside of the SRX was some of the best technologies at the time such as a built-in GPS system and DVD players for the rear occupants.

It was powered by either a V6 or V8 engine mated to a 5 and then later a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In 2010 came the second generation SRX and this time the car had changed significantly and was now being classed as a compact luxury crossover SUV.

It was built on a much different platform that it shared with lighter cars such as the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.

The new model traded offroad ability for reduced running costs, a move that would pay off as sales tripled in North America.

All engine options were now V6 but with an optional turbocharger fitted on the smaller displacement option.

It went through several facelifts during the next five years as the company optimized its fuel economy and features.

The new Cadillac SRX had an impressive safety rating as the NHTSA rated it near perfect across all of the disciplines.

Production continued until 2016 when the factory switched over to the SRX's successors - the XT5 and the XT6.
